This was a personal project for me. I wanted a nice long winter coat, and I wanted to learn how to do a rub-off pattern. I started by finding a coat in costume storage which fit me and I liked the lapels, collars, and sleeves of. I found a tailcoat and did a rub-off of the waist and up. Then, I added length to the front as it hadn't been meant to close, and added length to the skirt in the manner of a princess coat. I added some fullness to the sleeve cap as well as adding very large pockets. I sewed it from a grey wool and a heavy silk I'd been saving. I lined the collar, facing, and cuffs in a sink velvet, and due to its shiftiness I hand stitched these areas. I hemmed the coat by using a hem stitch on the wool, then stitching a hem tape over the edge of the silk. I stitched on the buttons and cloak closure at the top, and I finished the buttonholes by hand to avoid any issues with the slippery velvet.
