This is a portrait of a friend of mine. I first sketched an image of them on a photo in Photoshop, then printed it on canvas, and embroidered the flowers and facial lines. I stitched the glasses lenses in, and then prepared the hair. The hair is yarn and embroidery floss, which I curled by wrapping them around sticks, pouring hot water over them, then letting them sit in the warm oven until dry. This allows them to stay curled for a very long period of time. I then stitched the curls down to the canvas. |
This was my first paper embroidery piece. I started off with a picture of a ballet dancer, and then covered the back in tape to prevent the stitches from tearing the paper too much. I embroidered the majority of this piece, with the skirt being patches of fabric. It's meant to evoke fire and water. |
